"Sex and the City" at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York Fall 2008 Collections

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Stuttgart/New York – The whole world is counting down to the opening of “Sex and the City”, expected to arrive in many theatres throughout Europe on May 29, and in theatres across the United States on May 30. There was an exclusive preview of the upcoming cultural highlight at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York in February, where visitors could watch movie clips, marvel at a display of the four leading ladies' original costumes and enjoy the presentation of the brand new Mercedes-Benz GLK that Samantha Jones alias Kim Cattrall drives in the movie.

The outfits worn by Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) have turned the Sex and the City actresses into fashion trend setters and cemented the series' status as a cultural phenomenon. Sex and the City is a series considered by many to be the most fashionable show in television history. As with the series, Oscar-nominated designer Patricia Field created and styled the costumes for the movie and also put on an exclusive display featuring several of these costumes in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge. "The outfits have to fit in with the movie characters and not vice-versa. They're an aspect of the characters' development," said Field. And the same goes for their cars. "The GLK is a sleek and extravagant SUV. Samantha would never drive an old-fashioned car," said Field.
The presentation of the original costumes from the new "Sex and the City" movie and the new GLK directed some of the spotlight away from the official catwalks onto Patricia Field and title sponsor Mercedes-Benz at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York. "Sex and the City impressively demonstrates the connection between fashion and automobile design, between individuality and lifestyle. This fits in very well with Mercedes-Benz," said Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Although “Sex and the City” won’t be in theatres until Spring 2008, the film’s trailer can be viewed now at Mercedes-Benz TV on www.mercedes-benz.tv.
