As Mercedes-Benz has recently launched its new lineup of modular, efficient petrol-based V6 and V8 engines, comments intensified on the opportunity and possibility of a new generation of the exquisite V12 powerplant. In an interview to Automobil Industrie, Hans Multhaupt, director of the Development Department for the upper-class and luxury vehicles at Mercedes-Benz, declared that a V12 unit is a 'must' for the next generation of premium cars and shall, therefore, be built and offered. So, when the next generation of S-Klasse is revealed at the end of 2012, a brand new dozen-cylinder engine could be offered for the S 600 version.
