The 2011 race of the Monaco Grand Prix is an event to quickly forget for MERCEDES GP PETRONAS as none of the two drivers was able to take home any precious point. Although the strategy looked fine before all the red lights were off, the situation started to get difficult as laps were passing. Michael Schumacher struggled with a severe degradation of the super-soft tyres on his single-seaters, which meant he was forced to pit early and lose important positions. Dispatched to P20, the former champion was constantly slowed by opponents competing in low-performance cars and was also involved in track incident, which immediately took effect on the MGP W02. During lap 33, the Silver Arrow simply stopped on the track due to fire inside the airbox on the track while Schumi was preparing to box. On the other hand, Nico Rosberg was not any luckier than his team mate. He too faced repetitive issues related to tyre wear-out, but after a hard fight, he somehow managed to get his car back home on all four wheels at the end of the race, finishing outside the points-winning places, on P11. Following the official post-event statement, the German-British team will look deep into the unexpected bugs that set back both contenders at Monte Carlo and will deliver a substantial work to correct them ahead of the Canada GP at Montreal.
