The German-English Formula 1 Team began this year's Monaco adventure focusing on the evaluation of multiple set-ups during the practice rounds held on Thursday on the picturesque city track. MERCEDES GP PETRONAS drivers and engineers were able to get a clear picture on how the W 02 single-seaters cope with the new-specification tyres supplied by Pirelli, the soft and super-soft compounds, in order to contribute in favour of handling, dynamics and fuel economy. All in all, the team learnt a good deal of key facts in advance of the qualifying and the race, thus letting the staff describe the day as a very productive one. Nico Rosberg ranked third in both free practice session; Michael Schumacher had a minor incident in the morning, damaging some components of his car and sending him straight to P10. The mechanics were able to fix the broken parts up to start of FP2 and made it possible for the German driver to achieve seventh place in the official standings.
