According to inside sources, Mercedes-Benz is currently working hard on developing a new supercar to add it into the model portfolio.
The new super Merc, that could be entitled SLM(possible internal designation:C 177) and is expected to arrive around 2014-2015, will be placed below the SLS AMG and it will feature a high-tech, state-of-the-art hybrid powertrain. The technical joint-venture could comprise the new 3.5 litres V6 unit, specially 'doped' in order to boast a maximum output of 354 BHP, and probably a 109 BHP electric motor(like in the case of the VISION S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID). However, the new supercar won't be fitted with the legendary Gullwing doors of its bigger brother, but it will go instead for conventional ones, as well as for a more modern approach of the exterior design, displaying a lower profile and a more pronounced, aerodynamic silhouette. The main competitors the new hypercar from Stuttgart aims are the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Gallardo. The estimated price tag for the new Mercedes-Benz SLM is of about 150,000 euros.
