SPY - 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Klasse
After a quite long period with no spy captures, the 2012 SLK-Klasse finally reappears. This time the prototype was caught at a gas station in Northern Scandinavia.
The new SLK-Klasse is tipped for the official unveil at the end of this year, in December to be more precise. The little brother of the SL-Klasse will be sporting a fresh, more exciting design, in line with Mercedes's latest design philosophy. The car is rumoured to have shrunk a bit in length, while gaining a more athletic visual stance with a lower cabin profile and an elongated engine bonnet. LED technology will be available both for the daytime-running lights and the tail lights. At the rear end, the SLK Mk. III will feature the new trapezoidal exhaust pipes, that will indeed give the roadster a sharper look.
The dashboard will be trimmed in very much the same way as the new SLS AMG, with a few important details, such as a new steering wheel or rearrangement of certain controls, to draw the difference between the two models. Expect quality materials for personalizing the interior of the R172:carbon-fiber, aluminium or even wood and a wide range of attractive colour combinations for the leather upholstery(uni- or bi-tone).
Under the hood, the new SLK-Klasse will boast a completely revised powerplant range. A new, petrol-running 3,5 litres V6 is expected, delivering a maximum output somewhere between 300 and 350 BHP. The top-of-the-range SLK 55 AMG version will receive the brand new AMG twin-turbo 5,4 litres V8, specially tweaked to be capable of achieving no less than 470 BHP.
